Spain – Hotel Don Curro, Malaga

We were just looking for a place to simply freshen up and lay our heads for the night after arriving in Malaga at 9pm, so I booked Hotel Don Curro on the basis of the “efficient, comfortable and central, with well-appointed, spacious rooms” description in a guide book.  We only paid 56€ for the night, although the tariff is normally higher.  Bargain! It did what it said on the tin, it was in a great, central location, the room was clean although there was a hint of stale smoke smell (but then everyone seems to smoke like chimneys over there!) and the staff were efficient, although indifferent!

The potential problem is that it’s a noisy building.  We could hear every footstep taken by people in the room above, the scrape of a chair as someone sat down and it moved on the wooden floor, etc.  So, not a great night’s sleep if you are a light sleeper.

But we did have a fabulous view from the window – the unfinished Cathedral.

We didn’t have breakfast in the Hotel, but went round the corner to Cafe Moka and watched the hustle and bustle of the locals having breakfast before getting on with their day… then realised that the hotel chef made the pastries, bread and the like for the Cafe!

For practicalities the hotel ticked all the boxes, but I am pretty sure we wouldn’t want to stay more than one night.
