Spain – Boabdil Guesthouse, Ronda

Across the famous Puente Nueva, heading along the winding, narrow street you need to keep the Church Espiritu Santo as your landmark, finding Boabdil Guesthouse tucked in a row of Andalus style houses on a narrow, cobbled street in the old part of Ronda.  We were given a friendly welcome by Fleur, our Dutch hostess.  From previous experience of Dutch hospitality we expected to find an immaculate, comfortable B&B and Fleur did not disappoint.

Our room was dinky, we knew from the website that it was the smaller of the rooms available, but clean, pleasant and in keeping with the Andalucian style.  The Bathroom lacks much space to put toiletries down, although contemporary, clean and has a fabulous shower.  There is a small lounge area as you enter the house for guests to use and also a spacious kitchen/dining area in which guests can use the fridge, make drinks, etc.  There are also outside areas for most of the rooms too.

Be prepared – the church is right next door and those bells start tolling at 9.45/10am into the early evening. Fleur gives you a key to the door of the house, as well as your room so you are free to come and go as you please.  I did find that the walls were maybe a little thin, as I could hear food being prepared in the house next door at times – but not late into the night so we did sleep. Fleur has been running the guesthouse for a year pretty much single-handedly, although she said that she will start to get assistance.  It took a year to renovate the property, which has been done with much care and thought.  Although it is a little walk out of the town, it’s a lovely sojourn and very much worth it to return to Boabdil each night!
