Picnic Cafe, Botanics, Wellington

Sunday Brunch at the Picnic Cafe by the Begonia House in Wellington’s Botanic Garden was anticipated for a while.  Such a great setting for a cafe, offering al fresco tables or tables  inside the greenhouse like cafe which gives you the feel of being outside, but a little warmer!

The usual suspects feature on the menu, but there is a slight twist here and there such as Breakfast burrito or Potato and Feta hash cakes to keep you on your toes.  Took a bit to figure out if it was table service or not – apparently it depends on how busy they are but generally you order at the counter.

Our food and coffees came along with some friendly service.  I liked the fact that the Eggs Florentine came with the hollandaise sauce in a ramekin, allowing me to select the balance of rich bites.  The Kiwi enjoyed his Big Picnic Breakfast, which did what it said on the tin although the poached egg made the toast rather soggy, which was unfortunate.  All good enough to ensure we will return!
