Tinakori Bistro, Wellington – Dinner Review

I must admit I have walked past Tinakori Bistro and although the menu was enticing the restaurant seemed less so.  We finally decided to bite the bullet and try the restaurant, and I am so glad that we did!

It would seem that the chef\owner is so focussed on producing fabulous food that he is oblivious to the lack within the dining room of suitable atmosphere and ambience.

Venison

Venison

That said, the food really is divine, so by the end of the evening all is forgiven.  I took a bite of the Kiwi’s starter of Scallops with risotto cake to find the scallops cooked lightly with a lovely sauce that provided a delicious companion to the scallops but did not overwhelm the scallop flavour.

I ate the Venison with red onion and a potato gratin main.  The venison was perfectly cooked, pink on the inside, melt in the mouth with a  sauce providing depth of flavour to make a fabulous combination.

Chocolate cake

Chocolate cake

Gluten free chocolate cake with a raspberry sorbet provided a surprise as I expected the cake to be made with almonds, but it was a light and mousse like delight of yumminess – not too sweet and not too bitter.

All in all the four of us ate to delicious satisfaction, with all agreeing for the price and quality of the dishes the meal was a resounding success.  THIS is a successful Bistro!

Now, if I could just get him to sort out the lighting it would be perfect all round!
