La Sal, Mendoza – Dinner

Salmon and risotto

Salmon and risotto

With high expecatations we settled down to our table in the artisan urban chic of La Sal.  There was a violinist setting up in the front corner and the place was getting busier now it was after 10pm on a Friday night.  We ordered and it wasn’t too long a wait for our food to be served.
My salmon wrapped in parma ham with green risotto was impressively colourful and the initial taste was good, but after a few more bites it was clear that the over-riding taste was salt… not great.  Meanwhile the Kiwi was rather concerned by his chicken with orange salsa and rolls with puree as the chicken was a rather unusual colour and texture inside… it was RAW!  The lighting was so bad that it took a little for us to confirm this, but it was true!  Disgusted, we sent the dish back complaining that the chicken wasn’t cooked.  No apology followed, no offer to keep my dish warm whilst waiting for the kiwi’s replacement meal. At $42 AR a main La Sal is asking international prices, but most certainly doesn’t offer international standards of cuisine or service.

To add insult to injury we were also charged extra for the “joy” of listening to the one tune the violinist finally got round to playing. Pah.
Waste of time, give it a miss and head round the corner to A Zafran!
