Elegant Edinburgh

I have been pulled up for the lack of representation in my blog of the city I call home, Edinburgh.  So, here we go….

I would say that most days, as I walk up to Dean Gardens to make my shortcut through to Dean Bridge and on to the “West End” where my office lies, I consider myself very fortunate to live in such a beautiful, elegant city which although cosmopolitan has a county town feel to it.  I love the view you get over Edinburgh from Salisbury Crags where you can appreciate the number of vast green areas around the city, from Princes Street Gardens, the Meadows, Bruntsfield Links, Leith Links, Calton Hill, the Hermitage, Botanics, Inverleith Park and the list could go on, as well as the lumps of volcanic rock which make handsome hills in the city.

The Water of Leith Walkway is a walk of delights and surprises, and not so much in some parts (like when walking past the prison!).  We have completed the full 12 miles or so in two stages, one time starting from Leith, where the water meets the Forth Estuary and then another time starting from Balerno where the water makes its way through the city from the Pentland Hills. It is well worth taking the time to do.
